How it works

Three steps, from your phone to theirs.

  1. In Ireland

    You send in euro

Choose who it's for and how much. You see the fee before you confirm.

  2. On the way

    It settles on Solana

Kobo moves it as digital dollars on the Solana network. You don't need to do anything.

  3. In Nigeria

    They get it in Nigeria

It waits in their Kobo wallet. They change it to naira when they choose.

How does it work under the hood?

Kobo moves money using a digital dollar called USDC on the Solana network. USDC is designed to stay worth one US dollar. Solana settles it, which makes transfers fast and cheap.

You don't need to know any of this to use Kobo.

What you can do

Everything in one app

  • Send

Pay in euro from Ireland. Pick the person, check the fee, confirm.

  • Hold

The money waits in their Kobo wallet as digital dollars until they choose to change it to naira.

  • Claim by link

Not on Kobo yet? They get a link by email and claim the money in a few steps.

  • Activity

See every transfer and where it is: in progress, delivered or failed.

Payments

Simple, and always the same

Every transfer works the same way: amount, person, confirm. You see the fee before you confirm, so there's nothing to work out.

In the beta, nobody pays. Transfers run on founders' funds in test mode.

Roadmap

What happens next

No dates yet. We'll move to each stage when the one before it is working well.

  1. Now

    Building and testing

We test every step ourselves, with founders' funds in test mode.

  2. Next

    First testers

A small group from the waitlist tries Kobo with us and tells us what to fix.

  3. Later

    Open to more people

More people in Ireland can join and send to family in Nigeria.

  4. After that

    Built with you

We add what testers ask for most. Tell us what you'd want below.

Why we built Kobo

We watched the money our parents sent home take days to arrive.

Fees ate into it.

By the time it landed, the naira had dropped, and it was worth less.

And we kept jumping from app to app, looking for the best rate.

Kobo is what we wished they'd had.

Questions

Is Kobo a bank?

No. Kobo is a new app for sending money from Ireland to Nigeria, built by two founders.

It's in closed beta. Transfers in the beta run on founders' funds in test mode.

Can I send money with Kobo today?

Not yet. Join the waitlist to keep your place. When we open to testers, we start with people on the list.

What does it cost?

You'll always see the fee before you confirm a transfer. We'll share prices before anyone sends their own money.

In the beta, nobody pays.

How fast is it?

We won't promise a time until we've measured real transfers. Speed is one of the things the beta is for.

What does my family need?

An email address. They get a link, open it, and claim the money into their own Kobo account. They choose when to change it to naira.

Do I need to understand crypto?

No. Kobo uses a digital dollar behind the scenes, but you just send euro and your family sees their money. The details are in “How does it work under the hood?” above.
